“The Summer Sigs Series is a format for concise ideas. We offered 20 artists a container with a familiar form—16 pages, 8.5 by 5.5 inches, saddle stitched—and ask them to fill it with the expression of an idea; in effect, to create a work as they saw fit. Each book in the series is printed in two colors, black and a second spot color of your choice. We hope that by limiting the production choices that need to be made, the artists are free to express their ideas with purity and rigor.
The books will be released as they are completed at a series of barbecues in various outdoor venues in Portland during the months of summer. Each book will be published in an edition of 300, which will be split into thirds. One third of the edition will be given to the artists, to distribute as they please. One third of the edition will be distributed to the public free of charge by Container Corps. The final third will be saved until the entire series is complete, at which point each booklet will become a single signature in an anthology of the series, bound at our studio. We’ve chosen this non-commercial method of distribution in the interest of continuing the work that we feel is important in a time of year when that work tends to slow down.
This inaugural Summer Sigs series includes:
Matthew Clifford Green & Reuben Lorch-Miller
Geoffrey Kixmiller & Zoe Axelrod
